The little scientific research that is published regarding Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) shows in an astonishingly clear way how much these are harmful both to our health as well as to the environment. To cite a simple example of this, experiments done on rats show clearly that those fed GMO’s had higher rates of stillbirths (up to 10 times as much), weaker strength and a much shorter life expectancy that those fed normal food. However, I leave this to the scientists since I’m not very fluent in that field. What I want to talk about is the political aspect of this madness, a reality that is probably more sinister than its scientific counterpart.
First of all, there is very little scientific research on this subject, and the reason has nothing to do with animal rights. Monsanto, the main company behind these Frankenfoods ,made sure that either the right research is not done, or when it is, if it finds negative results, these are either doctored or censored. Doing this has not been easy for Monsanto for two reasons: The fact that nearly all experiments showed how harmful GMOs are and thankfully, that some people have a conscience.
After 35 years of practice Dr Arpad Pusztai was immediately suspended from the Scottish Research Institute when he found that Genetically Modified potatoes ‘severely damage the immune system and organs of rats’. His findings were denied or distorted and he was threatened with a huge lawsuit. Thankfully Dr Putszai’s conscience did not let him remain silent on the horrible truth he discovered, and he told the world the truth. Dr Irina Ermakova was also silenced while embryologist Andres Carrasco was physically beaten, aside from the legal threats he was submitted to. Against all odds, these three scientists came forward. The amount of scientists who have been halted before speaking out will probably never be known.
One may wonder why all this violent opposition against the truth. What do Monsanto have to gain? The reason for this is even more sinister. What Monsanto wants is complete dominance over all GM food, and in the near future, that all food is genetically modified.
Monsanto, however, has an excuse that on the surface might even seem noble. They want to convince people that they are proposing a solution for famine around the world. Lovely isn’t it? Those poor little children who don’t even have strength to wipe away flies from their faces will now have something to eat, no? They won’t. For the simple reason that Monsanto’s theory is based on a vicious lie – that the world lacks food. It doesn’t. Food is being destroyed on a daily basis so that it doesn’t become cheap. The real problem is access to food, and the poor little children will still have no access to it, not even the genetically modified Frankenfoods.
The most important aspect of this issue is its urgency. We Europeans have an advantage over most people in North America. Albeit limited we still have freedom of speech. Money talks, but unlike in the US it is not the only voice. For that reason, GMO’s have not yet taken over natural food. And if we really want to cherish our freedoms, including that of eating the food of our choice, we must educate ourselves and demand from decision makers complete opposition to GMO’s.
If we don’t, someone else will make his demands. The words a Monsanto consultant used should serve as a wake-up call for all of us. “The hope of the industry is that over time, the market is so flooded that there’s nothing you can do about it. You just sort of surrender.”

My blood is boiling. The Palestinian issue is much at heart. However, the outrageous words the Israeli Ambassador for Malta said, also offend me personally, as a Maltese citizen.
Israel did not just steal most of the Palestinian land. With the excuse of terrorism it also controls the little that it left for the Palestinian people. In the little spit the Palestinians have, Israel has created a buffer zone, to protect itself. This so called ‘conflict zone’ is in an area where Palestinian tend their fields. Needless to say, the Palestinians are angry. So are those who support their cause.
As an activist, a human being who hates injustice, Maltese national Bianca Zammit, apart from voluntary work with the Palestinian people, decided to attend a peacful protest inside this so called ‘conflict zone’. During this protest, she was shot at by an Israeli sniper. How could this be justified?
However, Mr Gideon Meir, Israeli ambassador for Malta wants to justify the unjustifiable. He skips every limit by claiming that Bianca was ‘sent by Hamas’. What? Does this man expect us to believe such a lie?
Mr Meir is doing a big mistake. He seems to be forgetting that he is in Malta not the USA. Quite a difference isn’t it? Among other differences between Malta and the US is that fortunately our media is not controlled by ultra-rich Zionist lobby groups. Mr Meir is overseeing this difference. He also seems to be overseeing the fact that we the Maltese people have a brain, and most of us even use it.
There is a question I would like to ask Mr Meir.
Were is the buffer zone? Do you honestly expect the Palestinians and other people remain silent to this? Silent to the extent of not organising a peaceful protest in that zone? Or as Bianca herself said, to ‘hold Palestinian flags in Palestinian land’? Do you really want us to believe that such a thing is an act of terror?
I’ve never said this about a foreigner in Malta, but this time I have too. I’m too angry. “Please leave my country Mr Meir. Your presence is an insult.”

I felt disgusted and really disappointed that a political party that believes that AIDS is a blessing because it ‘mainly gets rid of fags, black and drug addicts’, that ‘Islam is a cancer’ or that ‘Hitler maybe went a bit too far’ managed to get two Members of the European Parliament elected.
However it didn’t take long to see the funny side of it. The fact that a substantial number of people voted for the British Nationalist Party (BNP) may have seemed scary at first, now I think the fact that these two idiots were elected is beneficial. Ok, maybe not for the British people, many of whom feel ashamed of them, but for those who like me have left leaning ideals. They managed to make themselves the ridicule of the right wing.
What they didn’t manage to do was forming a Party in the European Parliament for which you need a minimum of 26 elected people coming from 6 nations. They didn’t manage because even the most extreme right wing parties such as those of France and the Holland needed to distance themselves from these British morons. They knew it would only be harmful to their campaigns to endorse candidates from a party that not only hails Hitler, but also AIDS!
When one of these two especially Nick Griffin, speak one can see the other MEP’s with a blank face that states ‘who the hell voted for the village idiot?’ It is very rare that someone rebuts their arguments. The right wingers want to have nothing to do with them, while the leftists don’t even bother to answer. Even the expensive cafeterias in Brussels shunned them. Some even asked them politely to leave the place – bad publicity.
So, can the British antifascists please refrain from doing counter protests to their speeches or those of their sister organisation the ‘English Defence League, no matter what offensive things they are saying? Let them talk. That’s the worst thing one can do to them. Better still, rally people to listen to them. They will have the time of their life. To a couple of leftwing fanatics I only have this to say: Don’t you realise that throwing eggs at Nick Griffin turns the attention towards the eggs themselves rather that the absurd things he is saying?
